Dry Skin In Winter? We've Got You Covered

Dry Skin In Winter? We've Got You Covered

Along with snow days, delicious hot cocoa, and cozy sweaters comes dry skin in winter. No matter your skin type, everybody has battled with dry skin at some point in their lives – but wintertime seems to take the cake for when dry skin occurs most often. When the humidity drops, our skin needs a little extra TLC to avoid flake city. So what’s the key to finding that dewy hydration no matter what the season brings? Here, our best hacks for overcoming dry skin in winter.

Maximize moisture

If you’re into skincare, you know the power of a good moisturizer. Here at Beautyblender, we take skincare pretty seriously (okay, maybe we’re a tiny bit obsessed.) To combat dry skin in winter, it’s worth it to swap out your standard moisturizer for something a little more heavy-duty. Try using a cream-based formula rather than a lotion-based one. With a higher oil concentration and thicker consistency than lotion, cream-based formulas add an extra layer of hydration for your skin. Pro tip: it’s best to apply moisturizer ASAP after showering, bathing, or washing your face so your skin can soak up the hydration while your skin is at its freshest.

Use hydrating products

When it comes to makeup, a few more simple swaps from your regular products can make all the difference. Try using base products like primers and foundations that are formulated with moisturizing properties, try Opal Essence™ Serum Primer. This hydrating blend is loaded with fermented botanical extracts to help soothe and brighten skin over time – and it won’t leave your skin looking greasy. When we’re dealing with dry skin in winter, we want *all* the moisture but none of the greasiness – and this primer helps you master the moisture.

Use a gentle cleanser

We all know the value of keeping a clean face by washing your face (and your makeup tools) daily – but when it comes to overcoming dry skin in winter, you don’t want to overdo it. Using a super harsh cleanser can strip your skin of natural oils it needs to help keep it hydrated. Opt for a gentle cleanser instead, and look for one that has “hydrating” or “moisturizing” somewhere in the name or label. Not only are they gentler on skin, but they’re often less soapy and irritating which can increase your skin’s dryness.

Get your beauty sleep

Skincare while you sleep? Yes, please. Dry skin in winter calls for some after-hours TLC. Wearing a sleep mask is an amazing way to incorporate some added moisture into your routine. Once you’re finished with your nighttime skincare routine, slather on a super-rich hydrating sleep mask before you catch the Zs. Our skin can lose moisture throughout the night – think of how many times your face is rubbing against your pillowcase! With a sleep mask, you’ve got a thin but powerful extra layer of moisture to seal in all of your typical nighttime products. It’s the skincare solution of your dreams (literally). By the time you wake up and have your morning coffee, you’re already one step ahead of the game when it comes to tackling dry skin in winter.
